History |
|
|
|
|
|
 |
Built in 1926,
the Riviera Theatre is a beautifully-renovated Italian Renaissance
performing arts center. Today, it showcases a variety of entertainment
including plays, musicals, film festivals, dance recitals, orchestral
concerts, weddings and music from big band to gospel, country to rock, local
talents to international stars. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
The Riviera also offers backstage tours and
space for businesses or organizations to meet. Billed as the showplace of
the Tonawandas, the Riviera, or "Riv" as it is affectionately known, can
thank a host of volunteers who have
restored, rejuvenated and saved this truly exquisite landmark. We invite you
to share in its history—past, present and future. |

The
Riviera Theatre is listed on the
National Register of Historic Places.
Beautiful stained glass windows crown the theatre's entry, opening to the
lobby. |

Throughout the theatre, the newly- painted walls are meticulously stenciled
and marbleized, creating a lasting impression. Directly overhead you will be stunned by the 15,000 crystals sparkling on
the 18-foot long French chandelier containing stained glass light bulbs and
draped in chains of crystals. |

The Mighty Wurlitzer |

 |
The 1926
Mighty Wurlitzer organ rises majestically from the orchestra pit. The Mighty
Wurlitzer hosts three manuals along with a pedal board and contains 20 ranks
of pipes. It has been beautifully restored and through the years it doubled
its original size by acquiring pipes from other local theatre organs.

Only such a
wonderful, dedicated team effort by the Riviera Theatre and Organ
Preservation Society (RTOPS) volunteers could have saved this historic
building. Journey back in time by taking a backstage tour, or join us for an
organ concert, or any of the wide variety of different entertainment
offered. |
