About Forum
The Dawn of Comedy
Forum's creators set out to put the comedy back into musical comedy by combining situations from the plays of the Roman master Plautus, ("the high priest of low comedy, inventor of the genre") with the infectious energy of classic vaudeville.   After absorbing all they could from reading each of the twenty-some surviving Plautus comedies they focused on four (The Haunted House, Pseudolus, and Casina, and The Swaggering Soldier) and drew freely from the original plots and characters.  They then injected the spirit, logic, and drive of the 2000-year old farces into a melodic vaudevillian romp remarkably free of anachronism.  At last a musical comedy where the comedy holds its own with the music.

  A Slave to Freedom
Pseudolus is the laziest slave in Rome and has but one wish, to purchase his freedom. When his master and mistress leave for the day he finds out that their young son has fallen in love with their beautiful but slightly dim neighbor, Philia.  Pseudolus concocts a deal in which he will be freed if he can unite Hero with his young love. Unfortunately, Philia is a courtesan in the house of Lycus, a slave dealer, and she has already been sold to the powerful Captain Miles Gloriosus, who is to arrive that day to retrieve his bride.  Of course,  as so often happens, everything begins to go wrong.
